Do It Anyway

The recent events in Aurora have sparked a lot of conversation on Facebook - negative, positive, some of everything. There especially has been a lot of political debate. I haven't really jumped in on anything but I do know that in times like these, we do need to rally and stick together as a community. Politics aside, we are all in this together.

My heart has been with those affected by the recent tragedy and I have been walking around with a heavy heart. It's hard to live "normally" when you know someone just like you is going through something so tragic. The last couple days, I keep recounting one of my favorite poems of all time - by Mother Theresa and I thought I would share it with you guys.

Mother Theresa faced a tremendous amount of adversity in her life and was still able to live her life with compassion. It's sometimes hard not to be cynical when people do things that we don't understand. Helping people was her journey to enlightenment. This poem just seems apropos. It was written on the wall in her room - she wrote it shortly before she died. It's called, "Anyway".

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

XO,
Rachel
